THERE are currently three spaces left on the free ‘music for mental wellbeing’ workshops that are currently underway in the town.
The aim of these workshops is to support people aged 18 and over with mental health issues through creative music making, regardless of experience. The programme will consist of groups of no more than ten people to create a safe, nurturing and joyful space for people to enjoy themselves in the medium of music.
There are four more sessions available this year, with the next one taking place on Friday 12th August from 1.45pm to 4pm at Trinity Hall. After that there will be others on Friday 30th September, Friday 28th October, and Friday 25th November – all from 1.45pm to 4pm.
The organiser, Bo Bowman-Shaw, said “I am an ‘expert by experience’ leader (someone with lived experience of mental health), working with Open Mental Health Somerset (OMH) living in Frome. Part of my remit is to lead on projects that benefit people who are struggling with their mental health and of course, post-pandemic that is many people.
“Having been unable to find music for mental wellbeing workshop provision in Mendip I have organised four more monthly workshops being run by Mind Your Music in conjunction with OMH.
“Mind Your Music have a proven track record in this work and have delivered over 2,000 workshops. These sessions will be mixed music workshops for mental wellbeing, regardless of previous musical experience and are free to participants living in Mendip who would like to engage and enjoy the full four workshops.”
Please contact Bo Bowman-Shaw to confirm that you would like to attend all four workshops on bo.bs.openmentalhealth@gmail.com or Whatsapp: 0789 904 5407
Tea and coffee will be provided. There will be two taxis, free of charge, available if needed to pick up you up from the centre of Frome at 1.30pm, take you to the workshop venue & drop you back to the centre of town afterwards at 4.30pm. The organisers have asked that if you require transport, please include that in your email.
