TO commemorate World Day of Prayer, there will be a special annual service in St Catherine’s Church Hall, Frome at 2pm on Friday 1st March.
The service, which is being organised by the Churches of Frome, has been prepared by the Christian Women of Palestine.
“They are calling for us to connect with this land from where Jesus came, where he was born, ministered and died, and from where our faith began and is rooted,” says a spokesperson for the organisers of the service, Churches Together in Frome.
“Despite living in an area of the world where there is ongoing conflict and the future is uncertain, the women of Palestine are sharing with love, a reminder that they are there and they want to give hope to everyone.
“The theme of the service this year is ‘bear with one another in love’ which seems very appropriate for these women, who will not give up witnessing to the love of Jesus Christ despite their problems.
“World Day of Prayer is an international inter-church organisation led by women that enables us to hear the thoughts of those women from all parts of the world, their hopes, concerns and prayers. The preparation for the day is vast, led by an international committee with national committees in each participating country.”
The Day of Prayer is celebrated in over 146 countries. It begins in Samoa and prayer in native languages travels throughout the world, through Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas, before finishing in American Samoa some 38 hours later.
“Any money raised with the collection taken at this service is given to various charities and details of grants given previously are shown in the service booklet,” say the organisers. “Everyone is most welcome to this service and refreshments will be served after the service in St Catherine’s Church Hall.
“We look forward to seeing you. Thank you.”
