PUPILS at St John’s School were recently treated to a special performance of ‘The Sword in the Stone’.
The fun didn’t stop there for the year 4 students as they also got a crash course in all things Egyptian with an Egyptian Day.
The school reports, “Image Musical Theatre were at St John’s School recently giving a fantastic theatre performance of ‘The Sword in the Stone’ to the whole school.
“Children all took part in a workshop first, learning the songs so that they could join in with the show, and some children were given roles to play as well. They then joined the performers on stage to tell the traditional story of how a young page, Arthur, became King by drawing the sword ‘Excalibur’ from a stone when nobody else could.
“The show was a leaving gift to everyone at St John’s from Mrs Marsland, who is taking up a new head teacher position in January. Eloise and George from Image Musical Theatre were amazing with the children and amazing performers too. Everyone had a brilliant morning!
“Children in Year 4 also had a great Egyptian Day. Children and staff all came to school dressed as Egyptian pharaohs, archaeologists, mummies, gods and goddesses.
“They spent the day learning all about Ancient Egypt with ‘Mr Egypt’ and taking part in fun and educational activities, including learning hieroglyphics and making ‘real’ mummies. “
Children were also able to hold a variety of real artefacts that were nearly 4,000 years old, including a spoon, found in a tomb, that had actually touched a pharaoh’s mouth as part of the ‘Opening of the Mouth’ ceremony.”
