ALTHOUGH the lockdown in Frome is starting to lift, residents have reported that the attitude of the motorist is still regrettably far from showing any levels of improvement.
Ashley Reay from the Mendip CSW team said, “The speeding epidemic continues unabated with the police, speed enforcement teams and community speed watch noting high speeds and how many vehicles have either no road tax, MOT or insurance.
“Levels of speeding detections remain high, with prosecutions to follow for those recorded by the speed enforcement teams and police. Many totally ignore the presence of any type of enforcement and seem to think that they have a god-given right to drive at what speeds they wish. The presence of many children in vehicles driven at high speeds simply beggars belief.
“The motorists still seem determined to drive in some cases at either speed, no MOT, tax or insurance and with children in the vehicle. It is a ‘chance it and hope for the best’ attitude that will surely fail these motorists as there will be no insurance paid out on accidents if a vehicle is involved.
“This ‘Russian roulette’ way of driving will either end in tragedy or in a magistrates court. Maybe not this week or next, but slowly but surely the net is closing and the errant motorist in some case is giving the authorities multiple choice for prosecutions, so the simple thing is to be safe and legal and think about those at home waiting for you.”
