FROME Town Council is one of three finalists in a national ‘Council of the Year’ award run by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC).
The council, which received national press coverage earlier this year when voters ousted all main party politicians, is in the final shortlist alongside Oswestry Town Council (Shropshire), and Campbell Park Parish Council (Buckinghamshire).
The council is also in the final three for the ‘Outstanding Project of the Year’ award, for its creation of the energy and recycling officer’s role – a post currently held by Anna Francis and thought to be one of the only ones in the country.
Mayor of Frome, cllr Kate Bielby said, “This is great news and is external verification of the exciting work which has been undertaken by the town council over the last few years.
“Many are quick to criticise, and we would be the first to admit that we don’t always get everything right, but the town should be proud of all of the hard work and dedication put in by the staff and the councillors. I hope we win!”
The winners of the first ever Star Councils 2015 Awards will be announced at a ceremony on Tuesday 27th October.
NALC’s Star Councils 2015 Awards is a recognition of the effective hard work undertaken by town and parish councils, councillors, council officers and workers as well as county associations of local councils across the country.
