FROME Memorial Theatre has confirmed that it will not re-open for live performances whilst ‘stringent social distancing’ guidance is in place.
The venue says that it would not be financially viable to open with a reduced audience capacity and will only reopen when the government relaxes its social distancing guidance.
A spokesperson for the theatre said, “Our trustees have been having regular meetings to discuss the future of Frome Memorial Theatre and the announcement from the government shows that we are moving in the right direction.
“But like many entertainment venues, we have decided that it would not be financially viable and impossible for us to open with potentially 30% capacity with the government rules we have at the moment.
“We are following the government’s announcements closely and will continue to review our situation if and when the government change their views on social distancing. We are talking to agents and promoters regarding the remaining shows we have for 2020, and any rescheduled shows will be announced on our website and social media pages.
“We would like to thank all our patrons for their continuing support and we hope to get the theatre back up and running as soon as it is safe to do so.”
After months waiting for a timescale for when live indoor performances could return, theatres and live performance venues were told that they could reopen from 1st August – but would need to operate with social distancing measures and reduced audience capacity.
However, following a rise in infection rates in England, the government announced last week that the reopening of venues will be delayed by a fortnight until 15th August.
