Frome-based cancer counselling charity We Hear You (WHY) has raised 24% of an urgent appeal to keep the charity open.
WHY needs to raise £55,000 by 31st March or it faces the risk of closure. It has so far raised £13,500 since the appeal launched at the start of the year.
The charity, based on North Parade, works across the region, offering counselling to people living with cancer and other life-threatening conditions, as well as family members, close friends and those who have been bereaved.
Chief Executive Officer of WHY, Lucy Kitchener, said, “Thanks to the generosity of our community, we’ve now reached 24% of our £55,000 target – an encouraging start, but we still have a long way to go to secure the future of WHY’s free and low-cost specialist support for people affected by cancer and life-changing conditions.”
WHY has been running for over 31 years and has supported tens of thousands of people through its counselling service.
Lucy said, “What’s been truly moving is the creativity and energy people are putting into helping us. Supporters across Frome and the wider area have stepped up with an inspiring mix of fundraising activities.
“Tribe PT in Trowbridge is hosting a WHYrox fitness event in February, Deck and Dagger in Frome are preparing for a 24-hour Paint Challenge this March and Treads in Frome are donating a proportion of every tyre sale and planning a charity car wash. We also have fantastic individuals running the Bath Half Marathon and the Bournemouth Bay Half Marathon on our behalf.
“Alongside this, WHY is running our always-popular Race Night at Trowbridge Rugby Club on Friday 20th March, which we hope will bring even more people together to support the appeal.
“Every action – whether it’s donating, running an event, or spreading the word – is helping us protect a service that hundreds of local people rely on at their most vulnerable moments.
“We’re deeply thankful to everyone rallying behind us, and we hope even more people will join in over the coming weeks so we can reach our target by 31st March.”
