STUDENTS at Springmead School in Beckington have been celebrating VE Day this month as well as taking part in an African Night.
The school reports, “At Springmead School our oldest children held a VE Day celebration, inviting parents and grandparents to join them for the afternoon.
“The classes recited poetry by famous war poets as well as their own poems. It all ended up with a huge sing-song around the piano, with everyone joining in, accompanied by a slice of wartime tea loaf made by the children and of course a lovely cup of tea!
“Also, last month Springmead School in Beckington has a very active parent association committee who hosted a fantastic African Night for the school’s families at Beckington Memorial Hall.
“There was a drumming workshop led by Fab Drumming followed by an authentic African supper with a Braii outside to cook the food, as well as gumboot dancing alongside a pop up African shop!
“It was great to see the children trying out the dancing and drumming and trying different foods. We were very grateful to our committee for their hard work. The hall looked fantastic with all their decorations to make it look like a camp.”
