CHILDREN at Hayesdown First School gathered together at 11am on Friday 11th November, for a special Remembrance service.
The school joined together to hear poems from the school council representatives.
A spokesperson for the school says, “Lucy and Sophie read ‘In Flanders Fields’ and Floss and Mara read ‘We Will Remember Them’. Year 3 pupils then laid the school poppy wreath as the children listened to the Last Post and watched a short animation to observe their two-minute silence.
“Throughout the service the children showed their responsible and respectful attitudes, showing an excellent understanding of the important of remembering those who have served our country and given their lives to protect our freedoms.
“The children had produced some stunning artwork, poems and reflections which were displayed in the hall and corridors. These ranged from painted poppies, collage wreaths, decorated poems, diary entries – there was even a poppy made from Lego!”
Headteacher Mrs Battersby said, “I was extremely proud of the children’s sensitive and respectful attitudes. The children had clearly put a lot of time and effort into their wonderful artwork; it was of a very high standard and created the perfect backdrop for our special service of Remembrance.”
