Frome Food Assembly continues to grow from strength to strength.
The New Year saw them move to a new venue, welcome three new producers and present the locals of Frome with over 250 mouthwatering local products in their weekly online sale, for collection on Wednesday evenings in central Frome.
Pia McGee, Frome Food Assembly host said, “We are very excited to be moving to the Frome Memorial Theatre for our future collections. The Cheese and Grain have been fantastic but needed to move us upstairs which was sadly too small to accommodate our growth to 14+ local producers!
“The Memorial Theatre foyer is a huge space, with plenty of free parking and we can’t wait to welcome new and old faces to discover us there.”
New producers will include Wraxall Vineyard near Shepton Mallet, Fussels Fine Foods in Beckington and Bill the Butcher from Bruton. Frome Food Assembly is now the biggest in the UK in sales terms despite having a relatively small base of just 400 members (so far).
Frome also stands out as having the most products and the only producers’ cooperative – the ladies from Frome Country Market baking products in their kitchens at home. This probably explains why no other assembly also has such a wide variety of healthy readymade meals – quiches, soups, tarts, vegetable bakes, and curries.
Pia said, “Producers such as Frome Country Market and Meadowside Café are able to respond really quickly to customer feedback and requests. I think they see it as a personal challenge!”
Since launching in Frome, the Food Assembly has received significant interest from other areas in the South West with assemblies now in the pipeline for Bristol, Lyme Regis, Southampton, and Bournemouth.
What’s next for Frome? Pia explained, “I want to continue to increase our product range and am actively looking to source a fish producer. But I also want to persuade those people who have registered as members but not yet bought from us to give us a try!”
