The fourth annual International Climate Film Festival has been hailed a huge success as over 1,150 films from 100 countries around the world were submitted to be shown at the two-day event.
The festival ran on 18th May at the Cheese and Grain, and on 25th May at Rook Lane Chapel, where there was an Award Celebration Day. The festival also included a special launch of local director Charly Le Marchant’s latest film, Ancient Woodland Restoration, with a panel at Frome Town Council on 22nd May.
Festival director James Godman said, “The festival provided an opportunity for people to meet local green community groups like the Frome Wardrobe Collective and enabled visitors to enjoy music from local musicians, including Sue Harding and Francis Hayden; to get creative with eco-art and face painting; to learn about solar green technology and, this year, to listen to a thought leaders panel which included our local MP Anna Sabine, Diana Finch, author of Value Beyond Money, Matt Mellen, the Climate Action lead at Frome Town Council, Amanda Le Pivert – Earth House at Frome College, Rachael Wells from the Bath Climate Hub and many more inspiring panellists.”

The panel discussion on 18th May was captured in ‘live illustration’ by Bex Gilbert.
James said, “We would like to thank everyone who supported this year’s festival, the volunteers and supporters, including the town crier, Frome Town Council, the Cheese and Grain, Rook Lane Chapel, Frome Times, The List, Postscript, Ellenbray and many more local businesses and members of the community.
“One of the many messages the festival received said, ‘I wanted to congratulate you on all the work you put into the Climate Film Festival. I attended the film on Sunday, DreamScapes — a UK premiere — and found it deeply affecting. What a planet we live on, utterly incredible.’”
The festival now aims to show films in the coming months to schools, community groups and others interested in seeing positive films related to the climate and the environment.

![Town-wide programme brings month of social activities in May
A month-long programme of activities and events is set to take place across the town in May as part of an initiative encouraging residents to connect with themselves, each other and local places.
The scheme, Frome Connects, will run throughout the month and includes a mix of social activities, creative events and informal meet-ups in community spaces.
Highlights include the return of Dress Up Fridays, which began during lockdown and invites people to wear formal clothing or fancy dress and turn the town into their catwalk each Friday.
Set-piece moments include a Kate Bush-themed flashmob (Running Up That [Catherine] Hill) on 30th May, followed by a bell peal at St John’s Church where the bells will play Running Up That Hill.
There will also be a whole-town drone photo on Friday 30th May, with everyone encouraged to ‘look up’ at around 12.30pm.
