SUSTAINABLE Frome is hosting their ‘One Planet Frome’ session next week, exploring the human right to a basic income.
Imagine being given money every month for the rest of your life, enough to cover all of your basic needs. And there’s nothing you would have to do in order to receive it. How would that change your life? What would you do differently?
Sustainable Frome have invited International human rights organisation Share the World’s Resources (STWR) to give a talk about Basic Income – the idea that everyone receives an income, whether in work or not.
The subject of Basic Income is increasingly being discussed by groups around the world as a potential way of providing financial security for all. STWR advocates implementing Article 25 of the Human Rights Act to ensure adequate food, housing, healthcare and social security for all on a global level before Basic Income is introduced to secure its lasting outcome.
Share the World’s Resources advocates for all governments to secure basic human needs by sharing essential resources such as staple food, water and energy. It aims to stimulate debate around the issue of bringing the principles of sharing and cooperation into human affairs locally and globally.
The session takes place on Thursday 7th September at Frome Cricket Club on Rodden Road, everyone is welcome and entry is free although a small donation towards room hire is appreciated. Shared food begins at 7pm or turn up for the talk and discussion at 8pm. www.transitionfrome.org.uk
