Frome-based counselling charity We Hear You provides free professional counselling to anyone affected by cancer or another life-threatening condition.
The charity has seen a 90 per cent increase in demand for its service since 2014 and is calling on local people to take on a fundraising challenge in 2018 or 2019 to help them continue to grow and reach more people in need of help.
We Hear You offers a wide range of challenges and adventures, skydiving in Wiltshire to trekking across Lapland, but individuals or groups are also welcome to come up with their own. Recently, Frome resident Helen Kay swam 57 lengths in memory of her sister on what would have been her 57th birthday, then swam another mile the next day, despite suffering from chronic back pain and fibromyalgia.
Fundraising and communications manager Gemma Wilkes says, “We’ve got loads of exciting challenges coming up in 2018 and beyond. First up is the Bath Half Marathon – once again we’re lucky to have some dedicated charity places so anyone who missed out on a place this year still has a chance to join in under the TeamWHY banner. We also have space available on our skydive challenge in March and the London-Paris bike ride in July, where our supporter, Michael Garton, raised an amazing £6,500 for WHY in 2017.
“For the travellers among you, we also offer the opportunity to trek the Inca Trail in Peru, walk the Great Wall of China or take a husky sled across Lapland!
“If you would like any more information on our challenge events or to take up a place at the Bath Half Marathon or our skydive, get in touch with Gemma Wilkes at gemma.wilkes@wehear you.org.uk or give our fundraising team a call on 01373 488577.”
