FROME Canoe Club is offering taster sessions to anyone interested in trying their hand at canoeing.
Pam Dixon, secretary of Frome Canoe Club said, “The new season is approaching and we are looking forward to continuing the very popular taster sessions that we have been offering for the last two years, for members of the public to come and have a go!
“This year, Tuesdays will be the evening for people to have a taster session.
“The aim of the taster session is to introduce beginners to kayaking in a safe and enjoyable environment. We provide all the specialist kit participants will need for the session, which will include some coaching to get started and some fun activities too.
“If people decide to take it further, then a couple more taster sessions will get them to a standard to be able to join the club and take advantage of the extensive programme of activities we offer on Mondays and Wednesdays to our club members.
“So, if you are interested in having a go, come for a ‘Go Canoeing Taster’ on a Tuesday evening, 6.45pm, starting on Tuesday 24th April and running through the summer months. Booking a space is not essential although it is helpful if you email pam@dixon.org.uk so we can tell you more about what it entails and check that there will be space for you on a particular evening.”
Club chairman, Andy Vowell added, “Last year we were pleased to see big increases in participation rates generally, and especially within the competition discipline of canoe slalom. The club’s national profile was significantly enhanced with the progress that our paddlers made in competitions around the country, and in particular, after one of our youth members, Jacob Lines, was selected for a national training squad.
“But we are a club for everyone and we provide opportunities for people to participate in white water paddling, recreational touring, canoe polo and fun and games. There will be something for you, I am sure!
“Looking ahead, our first national competition this year is the Market Yard Slalom on 13th May when competitors from all over the South West come and race in the short course Division 4 slalom. You would be welcome to come and spectate from 12 noon.”
