FAMILY and friends of Benjamin ‘Benj’ Millard, a Frome local who died earlier this year from bowel cancer, took part in Dorothy House’s Hero Walk on Saturday 7th September.
Calling themselves ‘Team Thanos’ – named after a character from a Marvel comic, which was also Benj’s nickname – the group joined hundreds of people to walk in the grounds of the Bath Spa University to raise money for the charity. ‘Team Thanos’, which included Benj’s mother Jo Millard and his aunt, Dawn Chapman, were walking in memory of Benj, who died on Monday 15th April, and to give back to Dorothy House who supported both Benj and his family.
Benj’s diagnosis of cancer in August last year sparked a huge fundraising campaign to raise money to pay for treatment not available on the NHS to help prolong his life.
Over £64,000 was donated to the cause, which the family shared a proportion of with Dorothy House Hospice Care.
Benj’s aunt, Dawn Chapman said, “We had the best time at the Hospice Care Hero Walk and Benj’s family and friends all enjoyed dressing up and spending time together walking and laughing. The silent disco was such fabulous fun – it has inspired us to do a family fundraiser for the hospice with another silent disco. Team Thanos is on a mission to support Dorothy House.”
