RODE teenager and hockey player, Robert Dymond, competed in the 2021 School Games, representing the England Boys White squad.
The 17-year-old and his teammates finished fourth overall, missing out on a spot in the final round after a tough match against Ulster Boys.
Robert was one of thousands of young athletes competing at the 14th School Games National Finals, a multi-sport event which aims to give young athletes the experience and tools to follow in the footsteps of professional athletes.
Robert told Frome Times, “I had an amazing few days at the 2021 School Games National Finals, it was great to be back on the pitch and playing matches. I really enjoyed getting to know my teammates in person after a year of online ‘camps’, and to meet the coaching staff who were very friendly and supportive.
“There were even lots of extras offered to the athletes over the weekend, such as free physio access, which were really helpful. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make it possible and for the event to go ahead.”
About Robert and the England Boys White’s performance, a spokesperson said, “The team played incredibly well against the other five hockey teams, and faced a tough match against Ulster Boys, which unfortunately meant Robert’s team did not make the final round.
“Despite this, Robert had a brilliant time at the School Games National Finals at Loughborough University, and should be proud of his performance.”
