A LOCAL lad has jumped out of a plane to raise money for family friend Jamie Mines.
16-year old Jordan Rollason took part in a skydive last month at Netheravon, raising almost £1,000 for Jamie who was seriously injured before Christmas by an electric shock while working in Swindon. The former Frome Town FC player and father-of-two had both hands and one foot amputated after the accident and in July had his other foot amputated following an infection in his leg.
About his brave fundraising jump, Jordan said, “My great-grandad was originally going to do a skydive and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to repay Jamie for all the happiness and smiles that he’s given people.”
“Jamie has been my mum’s friend for many years and I grew up with him constantly providing us with so many happy memories, and not just me and mum, but everyone around him.
“The skydive was the most exciting thing I have ever done and I have never been so nervous in my life. However, it was totally worth it! My friends and family were extremely scared and nervous about me doing the skydive, probably more scared than I was. Some members of the family didn’t even want to come because they were so scared!
“When I was on my way up to the altitude the nerves were starting to build up, much like the height. When I was leaning out of the plane all nerves flew out, as did I.
“The highlight of the jump would be the free-fall, falling at around 125mph with the winds hitting my chubby cheeks.
“After the jump I felt proud and happy that I didn’t splat! The adrenaline was immense and I can see why people do it all day long, I would love to (if I could afford it).
“My target was £200, which got passed in the first day. I then upped it to £500, which then got passed a couple days later. Now my target is £1,000 and I’m almost there, thanks to everyone who donated.
