Marking 25 years since the death of Ian Dury founder of The Blockheads, the band are set to perform at the Cheese and Grain on Friday 5th December.
Bringing their special Christmas tour, ‘Keeping the spirit of Ian Dury alive’, to Frome, The Blockheads are embarking on a special tour featuring all the classic material and some lesser-known gems to celebrate the life of one of the most renowned showmen, lyricist and vocalists.
Organisers say, “The current band still features joint main songwriter Chas Jankel and Mickey Gallagher (also of Animals fame) both on keyboards and guitarist John Turnbull, augmented by long-term stalwarts John Roberts (drums), saxman extraordinaire Dave Lewis and new frontman and vocalist, famed record producer Mike Bennett.
“The swagger, menace and humour of their former leader are now remarkably captured by front man Mike Bennett, who faithfully follows in Ian’s footsteps whilst injecting his own unique style into proceedings and has built up an incredible rapport with audiences for his dynamic ‘in yer face’ performances.
“The band has always been known as one of the ‘must see’ live acts, always producing an incendiary performance and a party atmosphere for the audience.”
Expect all the classics including, ‘Sex and Drugs and Rock n’ Roll’, ‘Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick’, ‘What a Waste’, ‘Sweet Gene Vincent’ and ‘Reasons to be Cheerful’ as well as new material from a recent album release ‘Beyond the Call of Dury.’
