WRITTEN by myself, Dr Julian Abel, an international expert in compassionate communities, and Lindsay Clarke, Whitbread prize winning author, The Compassion Project tells the story of how Frome transformed both its community and its healthcare through using the Compassionate Frome project.
We draw on inspiring examples from the lives of individuals involved, and argue that elevating compassion to a high value is the way to live a long, healthy, happy life. More than that, it has accompanied the journey of humanity and without it, we would not have survived. This is a different story from survival of the fittest. It is time to place compassion in its rightful place at centre of our humanity.
On the 17th, we are going to run a live zoom chat in conjunction with Hunting Raven Bookshop in Frome. We will also take over their twitter account so that people can send in questions and more importantly, send in their own stories of how compassion played a significant role during the lockdown. The book makes the case that compassion is present within all of us and plays a part on a daily basis in all of our lives. We often forget that it is there. The telling of stories of everyday lives during lockdown will bring this to life.
