FROME’S Architecture Club will be hosting a talk by architect and academic, Elena Marco, about the conflict between the public’s growing appetite for ‘stuff’ and the ever decreasing size of new houses.
About the topic, organisers say, “New houses built in the UK are criticised for not providing enough space for basic activities. With the modern desire for en-suite bathrooms, study rooms and utility areas, more rooms are being crammed into the same footprint. The living room, kitchen, corridor and bathroom sizes have been reduced as a result.
“Often the lack of space standards has been blamed for allowing this, and has resulted in the UK having some of the smallest houses in Europe. So, where does the stuff in our lives feature (if at all) when designing today’s homes?
“Join architect and academic, Elena Marco, to explore how our growing appetite for ‘stuff’ influences the design of housing.”
The event takes place on Tuesday 2nd October from 7.30pm to 9pm at Rook Lane Chapel. For information about tickets, visit: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ designs-for-a-life-of-stuff-tickets-50162760166
