It’s been just over six months since the secondhand and antiquarian bookshop opened its doors, but booksellers Noel and Peter say that several customers have remarked that it feels like the shop has always been there.
Both booksellers run the shop together and met several years ago when they had stalls at The Frome Independent Market. They also trade at PBFA book fairs and since 2016, have taken part at The Frome Book Fair.
Their wish to have a shop in Frome came true when the premises at the top of Cheap Street became available at the beginning of the year. They say, “The shop is just right, not too big and not so small, to house a varied selection of stock ranging from natural history, ornithology and British wildlife to children’s illustrated, modern first editions, art and fine bindings.
“These are our main subjects, but there’s also a flow of quirky and obscure subjects as we like to buy unusual things”.
Noel Crack is also a specialist on the poets John Clare and Edward Thomas, with a large collection on both authors.
They say, “We feel the shop is a perfect fit for Frome, with the monthly market and diverse range of independent traders on the high street. The shop seems to have filled a void for both people looking for quality second-hand books and for customers looking to sell their books. We buy from individual items to large collections.”
The shop offers a good selection of Christmas gifts, with popular titles by Charles Dickens, Lewis Carroll and Ian Fleming to name a few, with prices ranging from £3, to beautiful fine editions for the serious collectors.
