A collective of children who are inspired to help the community have been out and about litter picking and taking part in ongoing fundraising events.
The Giving Gang has been set up by two Frome boys, Hans and Bror, who had the idea to start the group after they completed a six-mile walk for Fair Frome raising £600, last year.
“It’s all about getting kids in Frome out as often as possible (each weekend hopefully) giving back to the community we love so dearly and that has given us so much over the years,” explained the boys’ father, John Hopkins. “They will be doing litter picking, street collections, and anything to help the local community. Recently, they did a litter pick trip down the river at Welshmill.”
Last month, the gang also completed an eight-mile walk from Rode to Frome for SHARE ‘a library of things’ that was based on The Bridge. They raised £1,146 for the charity that is currently without a home.
The charity was operating out of a building next to Halifax since 2015 through an arrangement with the building owners, Lloyd’s, the Cheese and Grain and Frome Town Council, which allowed the charity to run rent-free. However, following the closure of Halifax earlier this month, the charity is seeking new premises.
A SHARE trustee Frances Krige said, “It’s amazing to see the support and energy from the community and for the young team at Giving Gang to have raised £1,100 for a project like Share is fantastic.
“Over the coming period, we’ll be working to get share into temporary hibernation until we can find a new operating premises, after we were informed that our current location was to be sold. The funds raised by the Giving Gang will help us to bring Share back to the community once we have a new base to operate from.
“Thanks so much to everyone at Giving Gang, you’ve done awesome work to generated these much-needed funds for Share!”
