Frome’s New Venue at The Wheatsheaves is proud to announce that the one and only legendary Slipmatt will be joining them on Saturday 26th March for a night of Old Skool flavours, jungle beats, and general hardcore madness.
Slipmatt AKA Matthew Nelson obtained his first turntables in 1985 and started playing hip-hop and house. He founded the pirate radio station ‘Raw FM’ in London’s East End and began his professional DJ career as DJ for the Raindance rave event.
In 1989 Slipmatt collaborated with DJ Lime to form SL2, releasing the single ‘Do That Dance’ the same year. This was followed by a UK chart hit with ‘DJs Take Control’ / ‘Way in My Brain’. The follow-up single ‘On a Ragga Tip’, reached number 2 in the UK Singles Charts.
As a result of SL2’s chart success, the band were propelled into stardom and made appearances on ‘Top of The Pops’ and other television shows.
Amidst their chart success, Slipmatt cemented his name on the breakbeat hardcore DJ circuit and was a regular at major House and Rave events.
In 1997, Nelson began presenting his own radio show on Kiss 100. He has played at the most famous dance events all over the world. In 2003, Slipmatt’s track, ‘Space’, peaked at #41 in the UK Singles Chart.
Slipmatt has always kept all of the classic tone and original rave anthem sound that had rocketed him into the media spotlight, but yet still does so with a fresh approach, perpetually shaping new sounds and encouraging and supporting new music from all corners of the globe. It’s gonna be a special night… Come down!
