The Roundhouse has been undergoing a transformation recently and has been rebuilt to make the structure safer, with the help of two local carpenters.
The building is located at The Other Side, by the Welshmill allotments and the River Frome. It is a wooden structure with benches that provides a space for passersby to sit, have a picnic and enjoy the surrounding nature.
However, due to rot in the wooden beams, Frome Town Council reached out to local carpenter Martin Roscoe, of House Martin Carpentry, to repair the damage and enhance the structure’s safety.
Martin Roscoe said, “The rebuild has been a collaboration between myself and Richard Chisnall, Futurustic Woodworking. Apart from building in torrential downpours, the main challenge was getting hold of the timber in the first place, as natural round wood seems to be in short supply. Fortunately, when we were stuck for finding some of the timber roof poles, Wessex Water kindly offered to extract some previously felled timber from the treatment works side of the river for free.
“We still have a couple more weeks to go before it is all finished.”
