THE Wurzels will be promising plenty more Scrumpy’n’Western shenanigans as they return for this year’s annual Easter Good Friday gig at Frome’s Cheese & Grain.
Taking place on Friday 10th April, the West Country folk stars will be packing the venue with a rollicking night of cheer, tunes and cider-fuelled antics. A roaring sell out success year on year, tickets are on sale now and expected to fly.
The Wurzels have paved the way for Scrumpy n’ Western – a genre packed full of double entendre, mainstream parody and a comical folk style. The perfect accompaniment to cider drinking. Signed to label heavyweights Columbia and EMI, The Wurzels continue to play over 100 sell-out shows and festivals every year and insist on returning to Frome!
Their quintessentially West Country cover of Kaiser Chiefs’ ‘Ruby’ has been a massive show favourite of late, as well as their hip hop version of the ubiquitous hit ‘Combine Harvester’
Recent single outing “Old Rosie” saw the band tell the story of the infamous 1921 Aveling and Porter steam roller which was named after the Laurie Lee book “Cider with Rosie” and has been a permanent fixture at the fair since its humble beginnings in 1969.
The song tells the true story of the steam roller being found in a rusty state after years of neglect and its finder’s vision to one day restore the engine and bodywork to her former glory and of the proud day when his dream becomes a reality as she rolls up to the Greatest Steam Show on Earth in Dorset. The video even featured the iconic engine based at the Weston’s Cider Mill in Much Marcle, Herefordshire. Old Rosie also gives its name to Westons leading authentic and traditional cloudy cider.
