ANOTHER carnival has passed and once again thousands of spectators lined the streets of Frome to see the colourful carnival procession which each year brings the town to life.
Frome Carnival is one of the highlights of the town’s calendar and after months of hard work, those who flocked to the town were treated to a spectacle of colour, as a huge variety of floats paraded through the streets.
Carnival chair June Barnes said, “It was a wonderful day and the entries were brilliant. I was very pleased to see so many people had made such an effort with their costumes and floats. The entries were as creative and inventive as ever with Top Cat, The Mad Hatter and Snow White all making an appearance in the carnival procession.
“We raised £4,800 which is slightly down on last year but lots of people were very generous. Once we have paid our bills, hopefully we will have a good amount to put into the charity funds.
“I’ve had lots of people saying how much they enjoyed the carnival and that they were very impressed with the procession. The royalty very much enjoyed the day, especially the little ones.
“Thank you to everyone who volunteered and marshalled the day and to those on the committee who organised the barriers and cones; they’d never done it before and they did a marvellous job.
“Also to the Rotary Club for organising the collections and the Lions for transporting the royalty to nursing homes and hospitals during carnival week.
“A big thank you to the Silver Committee and also to Garston Vets for sponsoring the programme. And then a big thank you to those who came along and supported the day, we hope everyone had a great time and we look forward to next year.”
