Three friends from Frome raised over £2,000 for Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation after they trekked 55 miles in just 24 hours at the Jurassic Coast – with the group only stopping to sleep for just three hours!
Jordan Lawrence, Will Button, and Tom Ayres left Frome at 2.30am on Friday 16th June for the drive down to the Jurassic Coast with the aim of trekking 60 miles along the tough coastal path within 24 hours. They set off from Beer in Devon on foot shortly after 5am, self-guided and unsupported, each carrying 10kg of supplies in their backpacks.
“We called it a day at 55 miles at 3am on the Saturday morning which we’re very happy with!” said Tom. “We had been awake for 25 hours at this point, walking 22 hours in total, stopping only for ten minutes every ten miles to eat and tend to our feet. We also ran low on water with nowhere to refill at that time in the morning, facing a further two hours on our feet with empty camelbacks and very fatigued bodies.
“It was an extremely tough, body battering and energy sapping route with a total ascent of 10,000 feet; a beaming sun over our heads throughout the day and walking through the night. Just over £2,160 has been raised so far; any further support and donations would be hugely appreciated. We gave it our all and it was one hell of a day!”
Jordan and Tom are raising money for Cancer Research UK and Will is raising money for the British Heart Foundation. The money will be split between the two charities.
