Oakfield Academy welcomed 10 students and two teachers from Shanghai, China, as part of the Global Youth Ambassador Project (GYAP).
The purpose of the exchange was to promote global citizenship both in China and the UK, and for young people to experience different cultures.
The Chinese guests stayed with families of pupils from the school and enjoyed a number of exciting opportunities throughout the week, which mainly included being immersed in school life, attending a variety of lessons and after school clubs.
The students experienced a day trip sightseeing in Bath; a visit to the quirky, independent shops of Frome and pizza-making at Frankie and Benny’s.
On the final day, Oakfield celebrated with an assembly showcasing the musical talents of the school and a choir performance including the Chinese students.
A group of year 7 and 8 Oakfield pupils were selected to be GYAs (Global Youth Ambassadors) and were an asset to the school, ensuring the guests were fully welcomed throughout the week.
Dawn Warren from the Academy said, “Oakfield are very privileged to be involved in such a wonderful experience.”
