Three prestigious Chief Scout Gold Awards have been awarded to local scouts.
Jess Lee, Amy Cotterell and Steph Verwey all achieved the highest possible award a Scout can earn and this represents the culmination of their work throughout their time in Scouts.
The Chief’s Scout Gold Award is given once Scouts have completed all nine Challenge awards, ranging from the Outdoors and Creative Challenges to the Teamwork and Team Leader Challenges. In order to earn their Expedition Challenge badge, Jess, Amy and Steph planned and took part in an expedition over two days. They travelled to Lyme Regis by public transport and camped overnight, having carried all of their kit. They also prepared all of their own meals throughout the trip.
On top of the full collection of Challenge awards, each Scout must also have completed six activity badges, and thus the Chief Scout’s Gold Award represents a huge achievement.
Scout leader Richard Newland said, “This is the first time in several years that we have awarded the Chief Scout’s Gold Award, so to be able to present three is fantastic. These Scouts worked extremely hard to complete all of the challenges, but have had real fun along the way.”
