FROME Town Council has asked Somerset Council to respond to questions about the presence of vermin in the town centre.
At the full council meeting on Wednesday 12th July, lead councillor for the town centre, cllr Nick Dove, highlighted an issue with rats emerging around the Paul Street area. He said that it is an issue which has been going on for some months and is something that is out of Frome Town Council’s remit to deal with.
Cllr Nick Dove said, “Another matter that has been going on for some months is that in Palmer Street, the junction where the streps lead up to Paul Street, there is a metal gate and behind that metal gate are rats emerging on a regular basis into the street.
“Extensive research particularly by Jane Llewellyn [Frome Town Council’s planning and development manager] and myself at the museum, reveal there used to be a gents’ toilet in that place and it was originally controlled by the Frome Urban District Council.
“However, all of that property has been handed over to Mendip and then Somerset and we have been trying to get them involved in that problem. It’s taking quite a while and I am still told that somebody will at some point look to see whose responsibility that is, but again, I would be grateful if we could formally ask Somerset Council to respond to vermin that is emerging from property that is in the heart of the town centre.”
