GRANT funding has been awarded from Frome Town Council to community groups and organisations that are making a difference to Frome residents, in the final round of Community Grants for 2022/23.
Community Grant funding is awarded from the Frome Town Council to groups and organisations that have a direct, positive impact on Frome residents, and help to improve physical, mental and emotional health, as well as improve environmental and economic outcomes.
In the last round of Community Grant applications for 2022/23, the remaining budget was £30,033.30 and organisations were awarded between £300 to £3,000.
At the full council meeting on Wednesday 15th March, councillors ratified a total of £29,750 to be awarded to organisations and groups; they also supported the recommendation that Purple Elephant receives £5,000 out of the Substantial Grant fund for the support the project is giving in the cost-of-living crisis.
The town council’s Grants Advisory Panel (GAP) considered 20 applications and put 14 through for approval.
Successful organisations to be awarded Community Grants were: Mind your Music requested £3,000 and received £500 for music and drama for mental wellbeing workshops in Frome this year; Frome Community Education requested and received £1,170 for free access IT drop-in sessions; YMCA Brunel Group requested and received £3,000 for Frome Youth Club; Wessex Counselling & Psychotherapy requested and received £2,400 for a youth space; Young People Frome requested and received £3,000 for Multicultural Frome; Frome Festival requested £3,000 and received £2,000 for this year’s festival.
Musicians Southwest CIC requested £2,500 and received £500 for Trio Paradis free monthly cafe concerts at Christ Church; Wessex MS Therapy Centre requested and received £3,000 for specialist physiotherapy for members with Multiple Sclerosis; Gardening Together CIC requested and received £3,000 for the organisation; Openstorytellers requested and received £2,242 for sensory stories; SHARE Frome Library of Things requested £3,000 and received £2,000 for SHARE How-to; Dorothy House Hospice requested and received £3,000 for the community palliative care team; Frome Birth Talk requested and received £2,988 for Frome Toddler Talk Group; and Jellyfish Theatre requested £450 and received £950 for The Jungle Book. GAP said, “The Frome Festival (which this project is part of) were part funding, it was decided by to reduce the funding for Frome Festival and increase the funding for Jellyfish Theatre to the full amount. GAP said they liked the wider community appeal.
Unsuccessful organisations were; Active & In Touch that requested £2,800 for an art/craft workshop prior to art exhibition and were unsuccessful due to the small number of participants involved; Lumiar School requested £2,480 for its move to Frome, but were unsuccessful because the council was not comfortable funding a private school.
Frome Memorial Theatre Trust requested £3,000 for Assembly Rooms tables and were unsuccessful because GAP said other sources of funding or procurement of furniture available; Wise Children requested £3,000 for environmentally sustainable energy systems at The Lucky Chance but did not win a grant this time because GAP said they are already well funded from other sources.
Frome Field 2 Fork CIC requested £3,000 for the wellbeing and horticulture activity programme for the spring/summer season and were unsuccessful because GAP said there is no urgent need for funding demonstrated (they added that future apps should demonstrate clearly defined impact); and Teched Off requested £3,000 and were not awarded a grant on this occasion because it was felt internet safety is already covered in the national school curriculum.
