RESIDENTS in Frome will see their precept increase from April.
Frome Town Council met last week and councillors agreed to raise its precept – the proportion of council tax which is paid to the town council – to £1,343,371 for the 2019/20 financial year – an increase of £75,098 on last year.
This increase means that the precept of a Band D property will be £154.46 per year, an increase of £3.77 per year or 31p per week over the £150.69 Band D precept charged last year.
A report from last week’s full town council meeting says, “Business manager, Sarah Williams, took councillors through the proposed expenditure required to deliver the work programme. She then identified the income required to match expenditure. Some forecast underspends from the current year, combined with a small increase to the Council Tax contribution, was sufficient to cover spending. Sarah proposed an increase of 31p a month to Band D Council Tax payers in Frome; a 2.5% rise. All recommendations were agreed by councillors unanimously.
