FROME Town Council has asked for Somerset Council to think about ways of making the A361 junction with the A362 safer, due to its notorious risk and fatal crashes that have happened on the bypass.
At the full town council meeting on Wednesday 9th August, cllr Anita Collier requested Somerset Council to consider installing traffic lights, or a roundabout, to improve the safety of those using the road.
She said, “As we know, there have been two or three accidents recently in the town, one of which involved two fatalities, which was quite horrific. I just wondered if there’s any way that we can put some pressure on Somerset Council to think about particularly the junction with the bypass and the turning up to Asda. I know that’s not exactly where this particular crash happened, but nevertheless it is a notorious junction to get out of and it’s very, very dangerous and I wondered if there’s any way that we could request either traffic lights or a roundabout, or something to be considered there that would make it a little less dangerous for people.”
Frome Town Council’s clerk, Paul Wynne, said he would write to the director of highways at Somerset Council to request this. A spokesperson for the town council also said, “All our Frome county councillors are now working with cllr Anita Collier to request speed restricting options from Somerset Council.”
This request follows a fatal crash that happened recently that tragically saw two Frome sisters die after a collision involving a VW Polo and an Audi RS6.
Following the incident, a resident started a petition urging Somerset Council to take action to make the A361 Frome bypass and the junction where this meets the A362 safer.
