Frome Town Council is cementing its relationship with Visit Somerset on Thursday 22nd October at Rook Lane Chapel at 7.30pm.
This is an opportunity for the people of Frome to see how Frome will be promoted as a visitor destination.
The evening will include presentations from the CEO of Visit Somerset John Turner, together with Frome Town councillor Mel Usher. The highlight of the event will be the appearance of award-winning photographer Ian Brodie MBE, the author of various Harper Collins location guides including the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit Location Guide and Cameras in Narnia. Ian is developing a UK first – an e-book illustrating Somerset’s history, heritage, food and drink for Visit Somerset.
The e-book will be a 148-page guide spanning the entire county of Somerset, from North East Somerset (Bath) right the way down to Exmoor, and across from Yeovil to Weston-super-Mare and North Somerset – every key area of the county will be covered, including Frome.
This project will result in Frome and the county of Somerset having a future-proofed piece of technology that millions of people will be able to download free, as well as an unrivalled portfolio of cutting edge photography to help promote the county’s beauty and heritage.
Mel Usher said, “Frome is a large part of this project, the town and the county of Somerset will be marketed like never before.
“Our relationship with Visit Somerset is paying dividends and bringing local tourism into the 21st century. Working with Visit Somerset and gaining access to a photographer of Ian Brodie’s standing is a big plus for Frome. I’m looking forward to the evening of 22nd October where we can show the people of Frome what we are doing.”
All members of the public are invited to the free event and there will be an opportunity to ask questions and mingle. Light refreshments will also be served. For more information contact Mark Brookes on 01372 465757 brookesm@frometowncouncil.gov.uk

![Town-wide programme brings month of social activities in May
A month-long programme of activities and events is set to take place across the town in May as part of an initiative encouraging residents to connect with themselves, each other and local places.
The scheme, Frome Connects, will run throughout the month and includes a mix of social activities, creative events and informal meet-ups in community spaces.
Highlights include the return of Dress Up Fridays, which began during lockdown and invites people to wear formal clothing or fancy dress and turn the town into their catwalk each Friday.
Set-piece moments include a Kate Bush-themed flashmob (Running Up That [Catherine] Hill) on 30th May, followed by a bell peal at St John’s Church where the bells will play Running Up That Hill.
There will also be a whole-town drone photo on Friday 30th May, with everyone encouraged to ‘look up’ at around 12.30pm.
