Sat. 9th November. Southern League Div 1 Barnstaple Town 0 Frome Town 2
Frome Town secured another 3 points on their travels with a valuable win at Barnstaple Town in a match played in difficult conditions.
Perhaps with an eye on Tuesday’s FA Trophy tie at Carshalton, Sam Teale and Dan Cottle were on the bench, allowing Warren Maidment to take a place in the starting 11, along with the returning Jon Davies. As Rob Brown was unavailable, Kyle Phillips took his place in goal.
Frome got off to a dream start in the 4th minute when a clever pass from Mannings released Kane Simpson, who beat the keeper to take the lead. The hosts then created a couple of opportunities which they spurned without really troubling the Frome goalkeeper and the half drew to a close.
The second half saw Frome start brightly and put the hosts under pressure from the first minute when the goalkeeper was called on to make a smart save at the feet of Mannings and saved well again with his feet when Kane Simpson broke through as the visitors dominated the game.
Frome scored their second and effectively killed the game in the 69th minute when a fine free kick delivery from Davies on the right hand side was turned in by Marcus Mapstone at the near post. The home goalkeeper made one more excellent save from Simpson before a long range effort from Matt Smith clipped the crossbar on 80 minutes and the rest of the game was played out safely.
Man of the match was Matt Smith.
