Tributes have been paid to popular Frome man and former landlord of The Cornerhouse, Martin Earley, who died recently.
Martin moved to Frome in 2011 and bought the pub, which was formerly called the Lamb Inn.
He was passionate about live music, particularly jazz, giving local bands a space to perform regularly at the pub. Martin also supported the charity Active and in Touch, offering the pub for their meetings.
Local jazz musician John Law said, “Martin was such an amazing character. A really strong supporter of local music and musicians. As a jazz musician, I played at The Cornerhouse on many, many occasions and he was always so appreciative and treated us musicians with so much respect. A really kind-hearted and generous man who will be greatly missed by Frome. Thanks, Martin, for everything you did for us.”
Friend of Martin, Martyn Payne, said, “Martin was always a joy to work with in my capacity as one of the Frome Times team and as a photographer. Like many people in Frome, this is the loss of a dear friend and a gentleman. We will miss you, Martin.”
Residents have also shared their condolences via social media, reflecting on the rich contribution Martin made to the town and its local live music scene.
