Trinity First School has won a regional award for their energy saving activities.
Trinity were the highest scorers on the Energy Sparks scoreboard for the 2018/19 school year.
Teacher Kinga Draws has been meeting with the school council every week since January to conduct an inspiring range of activities to engage their pupil team in learning about energy and energy saving.
She said, “The children have loved taking part in Energy Sparks and were very enthusiastic about earning points for completing the suggested activities. I believe that this resource has given the children the knowledge and understanding of problems surrounding energy saving and how much of an issue it is in society today.’
Anna Francis, Frome Town Council’s Resilience Manager, who has been promoting Energy Sparks to local schools said, “Energy Sparks is an excellent free on-line tool that enables schools to manage their energy use more effectively – cutting costs and carbon. I’d encourage any school that hasn’t already signed up to get in touch and get their free account active.
“Seeing how much energy is being used when the school isn’t open, for example, is really useful and you can even see the impact of leaving a door open at play time! As well as being an excellent resource for business managers, the website has a wide range of curriculum based activities that pupils can engage with too.”
Energy Sparks manager Claudia Towner said, “Many congratulations to Trinity First School. We hope that other schools will be inspired to engage in more Energy Sparks activities.”
