FROME Rugby Club will be holding an inter-school training session this month to promote the sport ahead of this year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup.
The ‘pitch up and play’ event will be held at the rugby club on Sunday 26th February from 12pm to 2pm. Girls aged 11 and over are invited to join from Frome College, Oakfield Academy, Selwood Academy and Writhlington School.
Organiser Kirstie Jones said, “We are trying to raise the profile of girls’ rugby and the team in Frome, and we hope to inspire some new players, especially as it is the women’s rugby world cup this year.
“This will be a two-hour training session which will deliver the core values of rugby, but also inspire girls to play the sport and have fun.”
The event is being sponsored by the England Rugby Football Union’s (RFU) women and girls growth development squad. The school that has the most girls in attendance will win a special equipment package from the RFU.
Girls will need to wear trainers and sports kit for the session, and all will be given a free t-shirt afterwards. Refreshments will be available and a Six Nations game will be shown in the club later in the afternoon.
