A RECENT football match between Frome Town Women and Frome Town Ladies’ Legends in memory of women’s coach, Dawn Prior, raised £1,714 for local counselling charity We Hear You (WHY).
The match was held to commemorate Dawn who was the women’s under 18s team coach.
Lucy McMahon from WHY said, “Entry to the Badger’s Hill ground on the day was free, but attendees made generous donations via collection buckets at the match and bought tickets for a charity raffle, resulting in the impressive total.”
WHY’s fundraising officer Helen White added, “What a fantastic way to remember a local legend, so much missed by the club and far beyond. Dawn Prior’s legacy is a thriving and talented community of woman and girls flying the flag for football in Somerset – and we’re so grateful the club chose to support WHY through this event.
“The amount raised is enough to pay for 31 counselling sessions for a child, young person or adult in need of our specialist emotional support services. Community fundraising is the lifeblood of charities like ours and we’re honoured and delighted to benefit from this truly special event. Thank you so much to everyone who made the day such a success and donated money towards this fantastic total.”
