After the heroic defence against Kettering on Saturday that resulted in a 2-2 draw, the long away trip to Chesham Utd on a cold Tuesday night proved to be a bridge too far as Chesham took a 3-0 lead within 18 minutes, and despite Frome pulling one back from Jon Davies, Chesham scored twice more to make the final score 5-1
Injuries, suspensions and unavailability resulted in Frome travelling with a squad that could just about field eleven recognised first team players and with the injured George Miller on the bench and Josh Jeffries forced to pick himself and coach Ben Cleverley as subs, Lewis Graham also stepped in as sub on loan from Warminster.
The match started in the worst possible way for Frome as Shane Bush buried a cross from the left in the 3rd minute, and with Frome still not really managing to get into their stride, the task became harder as Bush scored his second of the match as he headed a corner home from the six yard box to make the score 2-0.
With the traffic all one-way, Chesham scored a third through full back Benji Crilley in the 18th, and at the stage, it looked as if a cricket score was on the cards as chances went begging, but somehow Frome managed to repel the attacks and their first half chance of the match saw Ollie Knight head into the arms of Hafed Al-Droubi before once again Chesham went close as a thunderous shot cannoned off the Frome cross bar.
Somehow Frome kept the scoreline to 3-0 at half time, and in the second half, they looked much better and started to take the game to the hosts, with Jon Davies wriggling into the box before being closed down and Jake Jackson causing problems with a run into the box. But Chesham always looked very dangerous and Phillips had to bring off another great save as Kris Miller fell while attempting to clear the ball.
After Jackson had a chance cleared off the line and several corners, eventually Frome pulled one back in the 76th as Darren Jefferies broke and set up Davies who fired low into the corner of the net to make it 3-1. But it only inspired Chesham to re-double their efforts and after Phillips had again saved the day, Chesham made it 4-1 in the 79th as Joe Iaciofano took advantage of a mixup in the defence to score with ease.
After Phillips had again saved, Chesham made it 5-1 in the 89th as substitute Scott McGleish took advantage of an awful mixup in the Frome defence, which gave him a free run and shot into an empty goal.
