Over £1,000 was raised recently at the Low Water Festival for the second phase of the Frome Missing Links cycling project.
It was hosted by Katherine and Ian Mitchell and their neighbours, friends and family on 13th June. An eclectic collection of local musicians played to an invited audience who enjoyed a delicious cream tea donated by Asda in a wonderful atmosphere and setting.
Geoff Pell from the Frome’s Missing Links Group said, “Frome is an amazing place with a tremendous community spirit. We were backed all the way for our first phase which opened this January and it is well used. Now we are thrilled by the amount raised by this event and would like to thank all those involved for their generosity.
“Sustrans had challenged us to raise £20,000 to demonstrate community support to corporate donors. This means we are a third of the way there already.”
Sustrans has received a pledge to match fund the community target so with gift aid this event will contribute nearly £2400 to the overall cost of the project.
Further events are planned including a pedal powered cinema on 18th July in the Victoria Park. Activities start at 17.30 with the film at 21.00. See www.crowdfunder.co.uk/ pedal-powered-cinema-for-frome.
Marjory Hatvany is riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats later this month and has already had nearly £1000 pledged in support. To sponsor see www.justgiving.com/Mar jory-Hatvany. Marjory is also offering a charity cycle courier service. Contact on 07743 671131 or marjoryhatvany@gmail.com.
Frome’s Missing Links project is aiming to create a traffic-free cycle path from Frome to link up with the Collier’s Way at Great Elm. Geoff Pell added. “We would like to hear from anybody else who would like to support us with an event, contact on www. fromesmissinglinks.org.uk.”
