Now in its fifty-second year, the Frome Selwood Horticulture Society’s Annual General Meeting recognised two Davids for their goliath contribution to the society.
David Turner had decided to hang up his vice-chairman hat after many years, but assured the membership that he was staying with the society. David has been, and will remain, a most respected “grower and shower” at the Annual Show. He has amongst many achievements, worked tirelessly to ensure the plant sale is filled, booked speakers who are varied and valuable, and liaised with the town council in support of allotments and the North Parade flower border. David and his wife Victoria were presented with an archive of photos and a token and bouquet, along with sincere thanks.
David Moon, was also acknowledged. A member of the cottage garden society, he and his wife Prue have opened their garden in Frome for the National Garden Scheme and the Frome Festival for some years, and David also gives regular talks where his amazing photography is transposed to music. In February their garden featured as “Ideas for gorgeous gardens” in the Amateur Gardening magazine.
Chairman of the FSHS, Ray Carver commended both for their outstanding contribution to both the society and to gardening. Ray, and then Pam Secker, president of the society, gave addresses which highlighted the past year and then looked to the future. They thanked the committee for their hard work, which they attributed to the success of this growing society. The committee was re-elected en-bloc, with Richard Robinson being elected vice-chairman. Anna Giles was welcomed onto the committee.
New members are always welcome to the monthly meetings, where topical speakers, tea and friendship is assured. The FSHS meets at Critchill School on the second Tuesday in the month, at 7.30pm.
