Frome Ukulele Club is hosting a second Frome Ukulele Festival on Saturday 28th March – and this year, it has gone international.
Along with acts from Bath (The Mother Pluckers) and Hampshire (The Mighty Lemons) are Frome-based Feral Beryl, and, of course, The Mighty Frukes themselves. However, coming all the way from Italy is Danilo Vignola, whose Mediterranean style of playing has won awards from Hawaii to the Far East.
For those who just want to listen, the evening concert at The Cheese and Grain is a fun-filled jamboree, with a terrific line up. For those who play ukulele, the festival offers a great variety of workshops for players of all abilities. Street food is available at the evening concert, but must be booked in advance.
Last year, the festival attracted some 200 players. These were joined by a further 150 people in the evening, ensuring that The Cheese and Grain concert had a great atmosphere.
Tickets are on sale now at the Cheese and Grain only (on line, by phone or at the box office). The festival opens at 12noon at Rook Lane Arts (The Mighty Lemons play here at 12.30pm) and workshops start at 1.30pm and include arranging songs, picking and strumming, the Blues, chord inversions, playing and singing, a slow jam and percussion. There will also be a busking workshop, a singalong and an open mic.
23 Bath Street will be hosting a Battle of The Bands during the afternoon, with the finalists playing at the evening concert. The workshops will be at Rook Lane, The Cornerhouse, The Three Swans and The Granary at The George Hotel. Registration will be at Rook Lane.
Tickets for the entire festival (including food) cost £25 (adult) and £15 (school age) – £20 and £10 without food. The evening concert is £17.50 and £12.50 with food, or just £12 and £6 without.
Another great day and evening is guaranteed. Details are available at fromeukulelefestival.org or thecheeseandgrain.com
