FROME Bridge Club will once again be offering lessons for beginners and improvers, starting at the beginning of October.
Four years ago, members of Frome Bridge Club began the process of re-energising the club, after many years of decline. To do this, they offered complete beginners’ lessons in how to play bridge. The aim was to teach people the basics of bridge from scratch. In parallel with this, they offered lessons for people who already knew the basics – to enable people to take things to the next level.
Members of the club say, “Since then, we have continued to offer Thursday morning lessons for both beginners and improvers, and added a third class for those who wanted to progress further. Almost all of the people who’ve come along have found that the club offers a good balance between teaching and fun, with just a small element of competition! Many people have made new friends, and many of the members play social bridge in each other’s homes.
“Although the original aim of Thursday mornings was to revitalise Frome Bridge Club, and encourage people to come to Duplicate Bridge on a Monday evening, Thursday mornings have now acquired a life of their own. You don’t have to be clever or competitive to come along – but what you do have to be is friendly, and to enjoy meeting new people
“We’re sure that there are other people living in or around Frome who would like to learn the basics of bridge or get better at it, so once again we’re running classes for beginners and improvers, and a third class for those of you who are good bridge players but would like to get even better.
“You don’t need to have a partner to come to these, although of course you’re welcome to come as a partnership. The classes will be held weekly, starting at 9.30am on Thursday mornings, and for those who are not beginners, there will be hands to play after the lessons.
Regular duplicate bridge continues on Monday evenings starting at 7.00pm. All the bridge is held in Wesley Church in Frome, where parking is available.
