Frome musician Vicki Burke will launch her new album ‘Keys to the Golden City’ at the Cheese and Grain together with a special appearance by her band ‘Vicki Burke’s Sutura’.
The band will perform the complete new album, which is an eclectic mix of folk and jazz with soulful songs and funky grooves, at the popular Grain Bar Roots Session on Wednesday 8th February.
Vicki is also hoping to preview her new animated music video on the night, produced by Frome-based film maker Howard Vause.
Vicki Burke’s Sutura is a three-piece band featuring Vicki on vocals, Celtic Harp, sax and flute. Joining Vicki on drums is Mike Hoddinott, with Andy Budge on bass.
Vicki’s long musical career as a saxophonist has taken her from rock to folk and from world music to jazz. Having been signed to Ninja Tune Records dance/world band Up Bustle and Out in the 1990s, Vicki has gone on to play with many bands including the ever popular Flash Harry whilst developing a solo career singing with her Celtic Harp.
More recently in her adopted home town of Frome, some of Vicki’s favourite gigs were playing saxophone with Griff Daniels and Nikki Mascall.
The show at the Cheese and Grain is at 8.30pm, entry is free and the hat will be passed round during the evening.
