FROME College welcomed a full house for the college’s open evening on Thursday 21st September,
The evening began with a welcome from the principal, Emma Reynolds, in the campus Merlin Theatre, who introduced the Frome College Choir performing ‘O Radiant Dawn’.
Following the performance, Ms Reynolds gave an inspirational speech about the excellent exam results this year, and the continual development plan of Frome College to give a well-rounded education and ensure every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. She spoke about the continued trend of success, and the aspirations and expectations of the school for the future.
She inspired the audience with a confident speech about the college’s values and vision, generating great life chances for every student to achieve their personal best, and the wide range of opportunities on offer.
Ms Reynolds highlighted the choices in the important key areas, and a five-year progression curriculum which begins in Year 9, right through to the post-16 stages, making a seamless transition in to the sixth form. She spoke with enthusiasm about the college’s programme of employability and apprenticeships working closely with the community, and how important it is to offer students valuable experience for their chosen next steps when leaving school.
She spoke warmly of the commitment from the team of staff, and the need for continual improvement to ensure Frome College is constantly developing young people and encouraging them to aim high, including the ‘Able & Ambitious’ programme.
Head boy, Finlay Osborne, and head girl, Tabitha Tarbrooke, followed by talking about their experiences at the college and assured the audience how easy the transition had been from middle school with such a supportive pastoral care system, and the great sense of community.
They also spoke about the large range of activities and participation opportunities available, such as trips, drama productions held in the Merlin Theatre, inter-house competitions and the Duke of Edinburgh scheme – to name a few.
Mrs King, vice-principal, finished the sessions with information to parents about the evening ahead and offering the audience personal student guides to accompany them around the site to see points of interest.
As visitors left the theatre to have guided tours of the campus, they were given the opportunity to see all the subject areas and discuss the options available. The art department displayed their superb student exhibition and the music department set up around the site, supplying a diverse array of accompaniment. Frome College says, “It was fantastic to see so many families participating in activities in the subject areas, and discussing the wide range of courses on offer.
