Sat. 15th Dec. Wadworth 6X South West Div. Frome 1st 7 North Dorset 10
Frome RFC 1st welcomed North Dorset RFC 1st to a wet and windy Gypsy Lane on Saturday aiming for a win and hoping to maintain the pressure on Sherborne RFC 1st, who sit at the top of Southern Counties South.
From the kick off it was obvious that the visitors had come determined to spoil the party.
With the wind to the backs the visitors were gifted some valuable field position following multiple penalties, and North Dorset’s Back Rower was able to punch a hole in the home defence to score a converted try.
The home side responded immediately and after a number of phases, Frome No.8 Alex Mallon was able to power through under the posts to score a try, James Howard adding the conversion.
With the testing weather conditions, North Dorset retook the lead when they converted a penalty after Frome were penalised at a scrum. Stout home defence kept the visitors at bay until the half-time whistle.
Half Time Score: Frome RFC 1st 7 – 10
In front of the large home crowd Frome were determined to regain control of the game and would have the majority of procession and territory. However some excellent defence by the visitors meant the second half was scoreless and Frome suffered only their second defeat of the season.
Final Score: Frome RFC 1st 7 – 10 North Dorset RFC 1st
The Frome RFC 1st XV are back in league action on January 5th when they travel to Swindon College Old Boys RFC 1st.
