JANUARY is traditionally a time to make resolutions for the year ahead, but instead of resolving to change careers or get fit, local groups and charities are asking the people of Frome to think of others and see if they could offer a helping hand.
Some of the organisations that need a helping hand this year include Share Frome, the Equivalent Project, Frome Field 2 Fork, Fair Frome, Dorothy House and Frome Birth Talk. Frome Mayor, cllr Philip Campagna, is encouraging local people to spend some time as a volunteer this year.
“In this New Year, think about those around you and consider how you may be able to contribute to the many organisations in Frome,” he said. “What can you offer? How can you help? Or perhaps make contact with people near you who may be lonely. Show them an act of kindness.
“There are many volunteering opportunities in Frome, so make it your New Year’s resolution to make contact and volunteer! Karin and I will be continuing our volunteering for Active and In Touch Cafe and help other organisations in any way we can. Collectively we will make a huge difference to many people’s lives.”
Cllr Mark Dorrington added, “Frome’s charities and voluntary groups are always in need of generous, talented people to join them. Could you help them make a difference? Whether you have an occasional couple of hours to spare, or a professional/personal track record that gives you a useful perspective as a trustee or director, you’re very much needed and valued – and every contribution counts.
“For many voluntary organisations, there’s one role in particular which is vital, yet difficult to fill – a treasurer. Treasurers provide financial record-keeping and guidance to charities of all sizes. Although this job is crucial, it needn’t involve a huge time commitment; the principles of keeping good financial records day-to-day could be delegated to staff or other volunteers.”
