LOCAL man, Jim Parsons, who has just undergone brain surgery, is asking for volunteers to join him in a 52-mile charity walk from Abbotsbury to Trudoxhill, raising money for cancer charities.
Jim Parsons, who has had melanoma and kidney cancer, and experienced losing a number of friends and family to different forms of cancer, has decided to raise funds for Macmillan, Dorothy House and WHY (We Hear You).
The 52-mile walk from Abbotsbury to Trudoxhill was scheduled to happen before Jim underwent brain surgery to help overcome his familial tremor, a neurological disorder that is the most common movement disorder. However, his deep brain stimulation treatment, whereby a medical device is implanted in the brain, took place sooner than he expected.
Jim said, “As I have just undergone brain surgery, I may not be able to walk all sections as planned. I am asking if anyone wants to walk with me, but is also prepared to walk for me.
“It is a beautiful part of the country, with the first two days only involving around 10 miles each. I am not allowed to go on the walk alone, so if I don’t get any volunteers I will be unable to complete the walk.”
The walk will begin from Abbotsbury on Wednesday 25th July and finish at Trudoxhill Chapel on Sunday 29th July. If you are willing to volunteer your time and efforts to raise money, you can contact Jim through his Facebook page by searching ‘My Walk’.
