CARERS from Frome were treated to a day of pampering in Glastonbury as part of Carers Week 2016 this month.
Local carers Valerie Richardson, Sue Masters and Gudula Balhechet were all invited to Abbey House as part of an event hosted by Carers Action Representing East Somerset (CARES).
Local Carers UK ambassador Caroline Toll said, “Carers, those who do it unpaid for a family member or friend, find it difficult to get breaks from looking after people who depend on them.
“Every year CARES does something to give them a break and this year Tai Chi, massage and delicious lunches were provided.
“Abbey House also has a beautiful garden where many carers enjoyed the sun and surroundings. They were also able to talk to understanding people about their worries and difficulties, or just have a day off by being there.
“CARES provides funding for emergencies that carers have, referred by professionals, and campaigns to try to make sure that services are available to support their caring role.
“Under the new Care Act carers should have that support to keep a life of their own going as well as to deal with difficult circumstances.
“It is a full on job and too often carers spend their whole time and effort in caring. This is without thought to their own well-being which will be affected in the long term unless they get support.”
